MEMO: New Plastics Accepted for Recycling
TO: All Cities and Recycling Haulers
FROM: Brad Seward: Director of Operations and Education
The Clinton County Area Solid Waste Agency is pleased to announce that it will expand its plastic recycling efforts. Starting July 1, 2011 CCASWA will begin accepting #3 through #7 type food containers. The new materials accepted join the plastic food container types #1 and #2 already being accepted by CCASWA. These new plastic types can be mixed in with the existing plastics during collection. Please share this information with your haulers, drivers, and residents/customers, if possible.
The newly accepted items will include cooking oil bottles, squeezable bottles, yogurt, cups, juice jugs, ketchup bottles, butter and margarine bowls, screw-top plastic containers, plastic soft drink cups, disposable plastic drink cups, household cleaner containers, etc. Those recycling are asked to try and rinse out residues found inside of containers to be recycled.
Even with the expansion of the plastics recycling program, there are some items which CCASWA cannot accept for recycling. These items include plastic films and bags (including grocery bags), containers for hazardous materials (such as anti-freeze, pesticides, chemicals, fuel treatments, or motor oil), all styrofoam products, lids containing styrofoam inserts, medical supplies, plastic without a recycling symbol, and large, bulky, or oversized plastic items.
